Here is a glimpse of the Layer setup in the Timeline of Flash
Start by drawing a rough outline of shapes and guidelines to show where your character belongs within the scene.
This is our first ‘Color’ layer. Draw a basic body shape of the character (with the proper color) over the rough sketch. Define where the character exists within the scene.
This is the 2nd ‘Color’ layer. It again defines basic shapes of our Character’s structure. It is separate from the first ‘Color’ layer because it needs to be on top - and it needs to act separately.
Now we remove the ‘Rough’ layer to show just the ‘Color’ layers. We can now draw our character over top on a new layer.
This is the ‘Character Outline’ layer WITHOUT the ‘Color’ layers beneath it. Notice how we are defining the hair outline and filling in the hair color on this layer. This keeps the hair on the top layer and separate from the basic head ‘Color’ layer.
